Les Matthews – Never Forgotten

We lost our beloved Les Matthews on January 2, 2009.

It’s just past 9 years however his legacy lives on and his tireless work and dedication to the NSWRLRA and the development of young referees is always worth a pause to remember.

Les devoted his life to refereeing and to the development of referees.

At the time NRL Chief Executive Officer David Gallop said “Les dedicated a lifetime of service to the game and our thoughts go out to his family and friends.”

Bulldogs Football and Media Manager Frank Barrett, “Anyone who was lucky enough to come in contact with Les always knew exactly where they stood; he was honest, reliable and determined to get the job done right.

“Les was a wonderful educator of up and coming referee’s and his legacy will last for many years via the current crop of referee’s he has guided through the ranks”

Les we will never forget you and the legacy you left us. We are forever in your debt dear man.

Michael Jones

Executive Officer
