Mark Coyne ‘Miracle Try’ – Bill Harrigan / Kevin Russell

Dragons centre Mark Coyne played 19 Origin games for Queensland, six as a replacement. He scored four tries but was on the winning side in just one of the six series in which he played.

It is a solid record, but not one which would normally earn him a place among the Queensland Origin greats such as Wally Lewis, Allan Langer, Darren Lockyer or Johnathan Thurston.

Certainly not one that would guarantee mention every year the series is played.

EXCEPT for three seconds of involvement at the 79th minute mark of Origin 1, May 23, 1994.

That is all it took, three seconds from when Coyne took the ball from Mal Meninga, to step inside the tackles of Brad Fittler and Ricky Stuart and score what would from that moment on, be known as The Miracle Try.

Three seconds that would change his life.

Touch Judge Kevin Russell was on the spot in the last 3 seconds. Incredible finish!
